Bauhaus-Museum, Weimar

3.0
#6 of 18 in Museums in Weimar
Bauhaus-Museum is home to many examples of work by students and teachers of the Bauhaus school. Started in 1919 by Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus style was employed by such artists as Lyonel Feininger, Johannes Itten, Wassily Kandinsky, and Paul Klee. You can see many original works from the school, including paintings, furniture, drawings, and prints. Though some of the furniture may look rather commonplace, the pieces were creative and innovative when they were conceived--and now have become fully integrated into mainstream style. • The new museum Weimar bauhaus opens friends, 2019. Until then, you need to take with the Bauhaus walk the University offers to do, because pretty much all Bauhaus sites will be refurbished or open until the end of March! We see you in 2019.

  • That the Bauhaus comes from Weimar and has attracted many famous artists, was not clear before. A guide worth anyway, precisely because the exhibition is quite small. It will be better still 2019, when the new building opened.

  • Small but concise. This isn't just a museum but the explanation of the world in terms of aesthetics of the object, the transition from crafts to industry. essential. Audio-guides are available in french.

  • Given the importance of Bauhaus in design, architecture and arts’ history, I would say that the museum is a disappointment. Way too small, with only one room, and way too little pieces. Anyhow, it’s a must-see place for artists and students of any related area. There’s not enough historical information either, not much of anything really. It made me really sad that the birthplace of such a great institution has now so little to teach.
  • This is a small museum but it has plenty of stuff to see and listen. The audio guide is detailed. The price is reasonable for this size of exhibition
  • Very limited display (one room), aggressive 'no bag' policy forces you to leave valuables, money, credit cards etc in a locker, thus risking your travel insurance cover.
  • Bauhaus is famous all over the world, such a small exhibition is out of my expectation. Price is not parallel with contents of display.
  • An historic museum of Bauhaus. Is small but so interesant as introduction. There is an audioguide for free. And there is also a little shopstore where I buy nice things.
