Went to have a look... Nice views across the river from there. Only takes a few minutes though. Can get busy with all the cars  more »

Particular, that the base (most pillars) from the 2nd century, the rest is "only" a few centuries old, yet it's a beautiful bridge over the Moselle river.

The bridge is built in 3 phases. For the 1st bridge 16 BC was wood used and with the 2nd bridge ca 71 ad there were stone pillars. The pillars of the current stone bridge were built between 144 and 152 ad. Of the 7 pillars are still 5 from Roman times. For some strange way, the bridge is not inflated during WWII. It is not a spectacular bridge to see but if you consider that the current traffic on this very old bridge drive without problems, that you can't always say of younger bridges.

Where to stay in Trier

Trier offers a small selection of places to stay within the city. A youth hostel and a camper parking equipped with showers and toilet but no power caters to the budget travelers visiting the city. For more comfort, look for hotels in the Olewig area or Porta Nigra. Several four-star hotels provide even more luxury at relatively affortable price.
