Hauptmarkt, Trier
(4.4/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Soak up the atmosphere at Hauptmarkt, a colorful, bustling square that's been an important part of Trier since medieval times. Visit the market cross, a Hauptmarkt landmark, which was commissioned by Archbishop Henry I in 958 CE. (Due to its age, the original cross is protected in the municipal museum; this is a replica.) The market fountain from 1595 shows St. Peter, the patron saint of the city, surrounded by the four cardinal virtues of a good city government: justice, strength, temperance, and wisdom. Ponder the meaning of the monsters and monkeys that also surround the saint. Pop into the shops and restaurants that line the square. • On the central square of the Trier can observe how well here combines modern civilization and the old town. Charming old buildings that Germans support in perfect condition, combined with modern restaurants and shops. This is the heart of the city! And life here boils, especially at weekends)

  • In the 10 century came a market to this square. The cross in the middle of the square, is the sign that this place has received market rights. Around the square are beautiful historic buildings. Also nice is the Petrus source. In december there will be Christmas market.

  • Close parking. Rather go to the car and check for dents. Beneficial for nervous drivers and or big cars: many XXL parking spaces on the top floors
