Rheinstein Castle is a castle near the town of Trechtingshausen in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.HistoryThe castle was constructed in about 1316/1317. Rheinstein Castle was important for its strategic location. By 1344, the castle was in decline. By the time of the Palatine War of Succession, the castle was very dilapidated. During the romantic period in the 19th century, Prince Frederick of Prussia (1794–1863) bought the castle and it was rebuilt.DescriptionBurg Rheinstein possesses a working drawbridge and portcullis, which are typical of medieval castle architecture and defences. The castle is open to the public. Just past the gift shop near the entrance is an opening on the left to the courtyard, which offers a spectacular view of the Rhine. Rheinstein's courtyard is known as the Burgundy Garden after the Burgundy grape vine growing there. The vine, which is approximately 500 years old, still produces grapes. From the garden, steps lead down to the castle chapel. In the centre of the Gothic altar piece of the chapel there is a woodcarving depicting Jesus at the Last Supper. Between the rock and chapel, additional steps lead down to the royal crypt of Prince Frederick William Louis's family.Plan your Rheinstein Castle visit and explore what else you can see and do in Trechtingshausen using our Trechtingshausen trip itinerary maker .

Rheinstein Castle Reviews
Met de boot tot daar gebracht. Kleine burcht maar interessante indeling, erg verzorgd. Veel trappen hierdoor wel prachtig uitzicht. Restaurant is also recommended (delicious homemade waffles and flamküchen).

Already, the sight of the Castle, especially at night, makes hearts beat the romance. In the Castle, a well thought out program from Knight tell tales, Knight Diethelm who fights with the Dragon and the fairy hour with Castle's wife await visitors. For your little a welcome must in the run-up to Christmas. Cater's inside and outside very well catered for. Who this year has failed to have been there before necessarily noted for 2018. Always on the advent weekends.

At that time, the locations of such buildings had been his circumstances and the castle itself was not geared to people with limited mobility. You can explore the Castle, which is also a Museum, on your own or to join a guided tour. To the restaurant we can't do data, since this was closed during our visit. The owners offer different events for different seasons or but also rooms for private celebrations, such as weddings. Due to the "size" of the Castle/Museum, visit for children would be worthwhile, as is the historical input into borders.
Very cool castle. Good for kids and adults. Great combination of ruins, renovated rooms, and (charmingly few) modern additions. Lots of history right there on the premises. Easy to see in an hour or two, but satisfying, too. Modern cafe on the property is great, too.
Gorgeous place! Fantastic view! Marvelous!
Gorgeous location for a quaint castle very well renovated for tours. We loved the gardens with breathtaking views. I highly recommend the kids guidebook: the cute bat and cat interested four very young kids in all the details of the castle beyond just climbing towers and walking past swords in the armory.
Great views of the castle from the river. This is such a wonderful area. Even if one doesn't want to hike in the hills, one can see it all from the comfort of a ship.
It was a nice simple castle with lots to look at, great views and tons of history. The owners clean it very clean and are friendly.
