  • The best exhibition on German history I've seen so far. Here, everything is very "tangible" and vividly, but not to overload. The goosebumps factor in reports by contemporary witnesses from the area and the trailing passport control also not neglected. The walk along the border trail they should allow for min. 2 hours (unfortunately the location in the lower Saxon Woods has closed now).

  • Many interesting impressions and presentations make history tangible. It was worth.

  • The museum has a wealth of exhibits that clearly illustrate the history and timeline of the Germany's 'Inner Border'. The displays feature explanations in both German and English and use technology we...  more »

  • Excellent museum about the border between the former East and West Germany. The permanent exhibition is bilingual (German & English). Guided tours can be booked in advance. There is a snack bar in the parking lot that serves a mixture of East and West German fast food. Most documentaries talk about the Berlin wall experience. ... this museum gives visitors a chance to understand how the wall tore apart small towns and families in the countryside.
  • On arrival it doesn't look much but this is an excellent museum if you want to understand the iron curtain. On entering you go into a small dark mirrored room and experience an evocative film about borders in Israel, Mexico, Spain etc which puts the inner German border into context. You then learn about the political situation post WW2 and how the border between east and west was tightened up until it became a deadly barrier with sophisticated defences to prevent people escaping from the GDP. It tells the story of the people affected by the wall, the border guards, escape attempts and what happened when Germany was reunited. Lots of interesting exhibits and displays. As this was the site of an actual border crossing point and some of the original buildings form part of the museum. You can go into the old mill which was the control building and enjoy views from the top. The border zone is now a nature reserve and has been preserved. You can see part of the fence, security lights and watch towers from the museum. Allow a couple of hours to go round, more if you want to see all the films and listen to the audio recordings. Well worth a visit. Cost of entry: 4 Euros.
  • Probably the best border museum I ever saw. Huge exhibition, structured storytelling, a peace of the border that was conserved nearby.
  • Tour guide is a retired professor from University of Göttingen. Very knowledgable. Museum is very educational and interesting. Worth visiting
  • Absolutely worth seeing. "Ossi" and "Wessi".
