  • This beautiful seat may all who visit Stuttgart view, and for Danish tourists have square a very special significance. It was decorated in honor of the poet, historian and philosopher Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) and contains some of the most beautiful buildings: Alte Schloss, Stuttgart Stiftskirche Church, Fruchtkasten (which houses the Haus der Musik) and Prinzenbau. Most were destroyed during the second world war, but later rebuilt. In the middle of the square stands the Schiller himself as the statue, four meters high, large and quiet with a laurel wreath on his head, and pen in hand ready to write the next masterpiece. Statue of Schiller was joined by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen and was finished in 1836. As a tribute to a release about Schiller the Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen wrote his tale "the old church bell", in which he tells and glorifies Schiller and Thorvaldsen's statue. So far I've been able to find out the statue survived the bombs during the second world war, and is thus still the original.
