Palace Square (Schlossplatz), Stuttgart

(4.5/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Open to the public since 1918, Palace Square (Schlossplatz) is one of the largest plazas in Stuttgart. A former military parade ground, the tree-lined square hosts part of Koningstrasse, the city's main shopping street. The fountain and Jubilee Column are striking features. The palace complex houses the Wurttemburg Museum and Baden-Wurttemburg government ministries. Wander among the plaza's lawns and flowerbeds, which offer plenty of places to rest. The square and its buildings suffered extensive damage during World War II. Huge restoration projects since have been bringing it back to its former glory. • Of course should have been here, who visited Stuttgart. The Central sights, especially the old Castle and the new Castle, characterize this well-kept place with an almost Mediterranean atmosphere.
