Markthalle Stuttgart, Stuttgart

4.7
#2 of 10 in Shopping in Stuttgart
Gift & Specialty Shop Shopping
A center for trade and commerce as far back as the 13th century, Stuttgart built its first market hall on this square in 1450--however, Markthalle Stuttgart as you see it today was built in the Art Nouveau style and inaugurated in 1914. Inside the market, you can overwhelm your senses as you pass the stands offering vibrant fresh fruits and vegetables, an aromatic abundance of herbs and spices, flowers, fish, meat, cheese, and more. Local and international items alike make up this market, including many organic and eco-friendly products. Enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants in the hall, or pick out your own items for a picnic. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Markthalle Stuttgart and many more Stuttgart attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Stuttgart tour planner.

  • Whenever we are in Stuttgart we make stop in the market hall to turn a lap and suck all the great impressions, here and there a little something to buy and to cover us with a few stocks until the next visit. Duty is always a visit to Benz & Merzing of the 1st floor.

  • Awesome little indoor market. Especially loved the Spanish one had an amazing bocadillo
  • Traditional market place with many booths selling international and local food, wines and other ingredients. Great to just walk around and try a few things. Prices are on the higher side, but expect great quality.
  • Excellent choice for fresh food. Great range of specialities.
  • Great place to buy deli food of both local and international provenience (cheese, prosciutto, sausages, olives, even mexican ingrediences like spices, mole, nopales, chile). Pleasant atmosphere.
  • This a great market for local and regional produce, flowers, etc. It's a must go to place. It's not open every day, so check the schedule.

Where to stay in Stuttgart

Stuttgart's city center offers a number of lodging options near major sites, but consider areas just outside the center for better deals. For example, Stuttgart-West is within walking distance from the center and boasts its fair share of cafes, restaurants, markets, and theaters. Two more areas, Stuttgart-Ost and Stuttgart-Süd, are also centrally located and full of local character.
