German Oceanographic Museum (Deutsches Meeresmuseum), Stralsund
(4.4/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
German Oceanographic Museum (Deutsches Meeresmuseum), a popular museum in North Germany, displays maritime and oceanographic exhibits. You can learn just about anything related to the ocean at this site, including man's history with the sea, the physics of waves, industrial fishing, and the creatures in the water. The large fish tank, where you can watch large sea turtles swim, is a special highlight. Don't miss the collection of shells and the whale skeleton. Consider hiring an English guide, as most descriptions are only offered in German. • A few aquariums, more info. Ozeaneum is better and more interesting for children. The best a combination ticket with oceans.

  • Small but nice... To recommend for a visit with children. Sure, there are larger facilities of its kind in Germany. Well worth a visit.

  • The Museum is still open from the GDR era - but thus no less worth seeing for all ages. Now, as then, a highlight during a visit to Stralsund is probably.

  • A very good and educational museum where you easily can spend many hours. Even the building and the modern adaptation of the ancient is interesting (when you are a former steel builder like me). Very nice models of boats, trapping, fishing nets, etc., that clearly explains the methods and practices.
  • A really cool museum with the history of the local fisheries and sealife.
  • The older part of the meeresmuseum-ozeaneum ensemble. Some of the exhibition pieces are aged, but still nice to look at and their meaning is not old in any way. e sure to take a tour through the aquamarine area!
  • quite old exhibition, nothing in english plus only for aquariums
  • It's definitely much worse than Ozeaneum - you can go there in case you bought combo ticket, but actually you won't find nothing special there.
