Wies Church, Steingaden

(550+ reviews on the web)
Church
Wies Church became a pilgrimage site after the figure of the Scourged Savior began to weep tears in 1738. Local authorities converted a hasty chapel into a Rococo church in the late 1740s, hoping to make the supernatural visible. UNESCO recognized the church in 1983 as a World Heritage site. The setting, other attractions nearby, and the surprising size of this rural church make it worth the drive out here. • In ordinary rural areas, from the villagers feel the history carefully, as they wonder how open the bolt makes you feel you've been protected by entrance door is closed and out of date. My miracle Temple is enough to want to wait.

  • This Rococo style cathedral is beautifully light & airy inside (unlike some others in this style), with phenomenal frescoes and intricate carvings. Mass is very well-attended, though you cannot take p...  more »
  • I met her in an interview, the Church is majestic inside and out but the road that leads to it is a pleasant experience. Inside many paintings and sculptures where highlights a Christ that perhaps does not have the beauty of other works on the inside but of which there is the legend that cries. I think it is undeniable that to reach this place is of vital importance is necessary to a vehicle or a bus. Around the church there are animals which go with toddlers can be a pleasant experience.

  • A very non imposing church from the outside but absolutely amazing when you get inside. The only problem is that it is now such a tourist attraction there are quite literally bus loads of people going through it all the time. Kind of takes the gloss off the whole experience.
  • A beautiful church worth visiting. It can be hard to find.
  • Absolutely stunning church! Stopped by on an early Friday morning en route to Linderhof Palace and found that we were the only car in the parking lot. This church is surrounded by bucolic fields of cows and working cattle dogs, which provided an amazing contrast to the opulent rococo decorations inside. Not to be missed!
  • The church is very beautiful, external and even more the interior. Worth the visit and sitting inside.
  • Impressive but very crowded, can't take pictures inside and you have to pay for parking. The other church in Steingaden, Welfenmünster, was just as impressive and when we went there was only a couple other people.
