Garden Castle Must See
Schwetzingen Palace, built in its current form in the first half of the 18th century, was once the summer residence of Electors Palatine Karl III Philip and Charles Theodore. Take a guided tour of the palace to get a sense of court life in the 1700s. Wander through the ornate rooms and admire the period furniture. Step outside to explore the spacious grounds. In addition to its variety of plant species, the garden is home to more than 100 sculptures and several interesting buildings, including the temple of Apollo, a bathhouse, aviary, and mosque. Relax with a glass of wine at the onsite restaurant. You can plan Schwetzingen trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

  • This is a magical place to enjoy with the family. The gardens are so beautiful and spacious. There is always a steady crowd but it is never overwhelming.  more »
  • We were there at the beginning of January. So I can’t vouch for the gardens. They resemble the garden at Versailles. But we also didn’t get to go in the palace. (Not sure if it’s allowed other than...  more »
  • Nicely maintained and beautiful gardens. The Schloss has a beautiful entry leading to it. With a nice brewery just outside. Exquisite pieces of part all across the streets and the gardens.  more »

  • Awesome place. Went a lot as a kid and have been back once as an adult. Beautiful, impeccably manicured grounds with lots of flowers, walking paths, and assorted architecture with ponds, pools, fountains, etc. Perfect place for a picnic. Picturesque in every way.
  • The mosque in the gardens complex is the earliest mosque-style building in Germany. It was built in 1779–1791 by a French architect for the Prince Elector of the Palatinate. Built at a time when the “Turkish” style was fashionable in Germany, it was never intended for prayer but later served religious purposes at various times. After many years of restoration, and at great expense, the mosque is fully restored and open to the public.
  • It was good, but just like any other castle. The gardens don't have a place to sit in the shade, all benches (very few present anyway) are in direct sunlight in the summer. The statues are okay, but not worth a days picnic or not worth coming so far from Heidelberg city center, unless you're a local tourist.
  • I had such a wonderful time here, it's so lovely and astonishing how simmetric and well cared the gardens are. I would gladly say this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life! If you're lucky enough you can also see someone having a wedding here, must be expensive though😬
  • Garden is mesmerizing. Must visit if you are staying around Heidelberg or Mannheim or Walldorf areas. You won't regret.
