Garden Castle
Schwetzingen Castle (Schloss), built in its current form in the first half of the 18th century, was once the summer residence of Electors Palatine Karl III Philip and Charles Theodore. Take a guided tour of the palace to get a sense of court life in the 1700s. Wander through the ornate rooms and admire the period furniture. Step outside to explore the spacious grounds. In addition to its variety of plant species, the garden is home to more than 100 sculptures and several interesting buildings, including the temple of Apollo, a bathhouse, aviary, and mosque. Relax with a glass of wine at the onsite restaurant. • We arrived at the castle about 4pm and missed the viewing times to look inside the castle. It cost 6£ each to visit. We expected to just see a few garden beds with pretty flowers and not much else, bu...  more »
  • Definitely worth a visit. Who was in Schwetzingen and has not visited the Castle Park was not in Schwetzingen

  • Despite the fact that a large part of the furniture and textiles in the castle is reconstructed, you get through a visit to a very good picture of what life was like here during 1700-century, thanks to the rooms themselves are quite untouched. It is therefore a castle full of 1700-century atmosphere. One should not, however, expect sumptuous interiors, since Schwetzingen was an easier Summer Palace. Here you have the good taste to offer a guided tour in English every day. It was good and informative and lasted for 60 minutes. If you understand German so you can choose two different views, one on 60 minutes and one at 90-where you get to see more of the Castle. If I understood right, you can go on a 90-minute tour and get an English text to follow. You should certainly not miss to stroll in the Park, perhaps really is the big attraction in Schwetzingen. This is aside from flowers and trees, even including an Orangery, a bathhouse, a mosque (!), a ruin and an aqueduct. In the Park's fringes, there is also a 1700-century theatre, but it can only be visited in conjunction with concerts.

  • Gardens are beautiful and well kept. You can easily spend a whole day there if there where some food options. They charge something like 10 € to get into the garden and if you want to see the museum the price go higher. Lines to get the tickets will take you a while, at least 30 minutes if it is a sunny day
  • Been here couples of times loved it..will visit more in summer..beautiful place..a tourist attraction in Germany schwetzingen!!!
  • Very nice, romantic place, we where at the art-market in front of the castle building and at the little tiny xmas market before the castle entrance.
  • The park is beautiful in the summer and cultural events take place throughout the year.
  • Ticket cost is 4€ (with cable train included). One of most valuable places to see in HD
