Since a large donation 5 years ago, the collection of Flemish and Dutch painting is one of the most important in Germany. Who is because of the "prominent location" opposite the Castle nearby, should take some time - also due to the extraordinary animal photos of Oudrys or CAREL Fabritius, whose "night watch" here depends on. But there is also much contemporary - and a large M. Duchamp - collection.View original -

We have the current special exhibition in the very impressive building (collection Frank Brabant) visited in the new extension. It was beautifully arranged and labeled in the just right amount. On the way to the special exhibition we ran through the rooms of the permanent exhibition to the modern era. We will look at again more accurately these at the earliest opportunity.View original -
Vor allem die alten Meister haben uns beeindruckt. Die kleine Barlach Ausstellung hätte etwas mehr ins Detail gehen sollen. more »
Especially the old masters have impressed us. The small Barlach exhibition should have something more in detail.View original

Beautiful building and great collection!

I was there for the first time in April and enjoyed the exhibits. But went back last month to check out the additional new building and I was extremely disappointed. Nothing was new. Basically the same exhibits were more spread out in the old and new space. Plus, before the new building, the entrance fee was 4€ and now it is 8,5€ per person. Absolute waste of money for the second time.

Good collection and friendly staff. The permanent collection is worth seeing. (4 stars) Edit: After going back once the new wing opened, I left extremely disappointed. It's a useless addition to the museum. Almost all of the art that is in the new wing was originally in the permanent collection and has just been moved over to fill up space. I will not be going back to the new wing.

An excellent collection, nicely presented with an interesting reflexion of the political periods and influences under which it was assembled.
