  • The location of the Museum with its large outside staircase in the ensemble with Castle, theatre and State Chancellery is already great. The collection provides a focal point in Dutch painting in the upper floor. Not everything is of the highest level, but there are some very nice pieces. In the basement and in the new extension the modern will be shown in an overview with emphasis on the Communist era and contemporary art of Uecker, as well as some installations. We had participated in a public guided tour, which could meet any demands. It hurt sometimes right to follow the "explanations" overburdened old ladies. Laminated DIN A4 pages with descriptions available in the rooms that had much more to offer. Also the small booklet with highlights of the exhibition consists of two storeys is helpful. Also, there are audio guides at the box office. Overall a recommended visit address.

  • I was there for the first time in April and enjoyed the exhibits. But went back last month to check out the additional new building and I was extremely disappointed. Nothing was new. Basically the same exhibits were more spread out in the old and new space. Plus, before the new building, the entrance fee was 4€ and now it is 8,5€ per person. Absolute waste of money for the second time.
  • Good collection and friendly staff. The permanent collection is worth seeing. (4 stars) Edit: After going back once the new wing opened, I left extremely disappointed. It's a useless addition to the museum. Almost all of the art that is in the new wing was originally in the permanent collection and has just been moved over to fill up space. I will not be going back to the new wing.
  • An excellent collection, nicely presented with an interesting reflexion of the political periods and influences under which it was assembled.
  • Their staff are so friendly. Their collection are also worth to see
  • Mostly paintings and a few statues.
