Seventy-six years in the making, Schwerin Cathedral was erected in 1248. A jewel thought to contain a drop of Christ's blood is displayed on the altar, leading thousands to make a pilgrimage here for many years. Although the foundation of the church was laid in the 13th century, many additions were added to the structure in the 15th century, including the nave and cloister. Schwerin Cathedral is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Schwerin Edition.

  • The Cathedral is very imposing. We have started to climb the 220 steps to the tower and had a nice overview.

  • The cathedral is a lovely red brick church and the church tower can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Renovations underway in various parts of the cathedral, but go anyway.
  • I went up with my youth group from church and while at the cathedral, we went up the tower. The view was amazing and it was just so wonderful. It's definitely worth the climb!
  • Good architecture but for the size of it, too close to other buildings. Interesting interior. There are 220 steps leading up to the highest point of the tower (117.5 meters). It is really worth the effort when you can enjoy the stunning view of Schwerin and the nearby lakes.
  • I spend one month în Schwerin and i visit this cathedral and the castel of Mecklenburg . All is full of history and the building have great arhitecture .
  • Climb on top of the whole ocean in Schwerin. Even a small money donation rates.
