Schwerin Cathedral, Schwerin
(4.6/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Seventy-six years in the making, Schwerin Cathedral was erected in 1248. A jewel thought to contain a drop of Christ's blood is displayed on the altar, leading thousands to make a pilgrimage here for many years. Although the foundation of the church was laid in the 13th century, many additions were added to the structure in the 15th century, including the nave and cloister. Schwerin Cathedral is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Schwerin Edition.

  • Schwerin Cathedral St. Marien and St. Johannis is a church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany. He belongs to the North German brick Gothic style and dates from 1248. The Cathedral is the only real cathedral in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the only remaining medieval buildings of Schwerin. He has a very varied, interesting history and impressed by the massive size. Absolutely worth seeing!

  • The Dom was very interesting and indeed a visit. It allows one to gain an u nderstanding of the various times during its existsence.
  • We climbed the 219 steps to the top and were well rewarded with 360 degree views of beautiful Schwerin. The church itself was also worth a wander around.

  • Good architecture but for the size of it, too close to other buildings. Interesting interior. There are 220 steps leading up to the highest point of the tower (117.5 meters). It is really worth the effort when you can enjoy the stunning view of Schwerin and the nearby lakes._
  • I spend one month în Schwerin and i visit this cathedral and the castel of Mecklenburg . All is full of history and the building have great arhitecture .
  • A very nice, three-aisled Basilica of brick. One of the largest and bedeutensden buildings of the brick Gothic style in Northern Germany. The 120m high tower was completed in 1893.
