Later the dukes of Mecklenburgonce lived in the castle, which fell into disrepair when they moved out in 1765. A round of vast renovations kicked off in 1843. The German state took over the site in 1918. Later, fire damage set off another round of renovations. • If you come to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, must simply make a small detour to Schwerin and there to visit the Castle. Weather permitting, the Park and the grounds with the Orangery is fantastically beautiful, situated directly on the Lake. The castle is beautifully restored and with the situation at the Lake a real gem. Here, you can stroll lovely something around and enjoy the day. The visit is a must.

  • Good experience, there is a fine museum, where you can see some of the castle's rooms. We particularly enjoyed a stroll in the gardens around the Castle, which also contains an Orangery, which is can be enjoyed some food or a beer

  • Schwerin Castle is the seat of the State Parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Wonderful castle in a beautiful lake. Lovely gardens. Worth a visit. Best view from the lake.
  • Beautiful castle. At first it looked kinda weird since it's like the theme of the castle is quite a mix of more than 2 period of time. But it has a really nice garden and some history of the castle are described there.
  • The most beautiful castle in Nord Germany. The inside is not that special but the garden is exceptional
  • Great day trip from Hamburg. A bit touristy, but the the schloss and the surrounding views are more than worth the trip. The town of Schwerin deserves attention as well.
