  • The Schluchsee is an artificially dammed Lake and was already created before World War 2. At that time a small village, with a much smaller carts Lake on the valley floor already existed. The town was abandoned and dammed Lake. Today, the water serves as reserve memory for the power generation and only during "Peak". Then, water is drained to produce that electricity. The dam is in navigable in both directions. Note that this is somewhat dangerous. The basis of the single shipping company on the Schluchsee is located at the end of the dam wall. The excursion boats are powered by electric motor. Also a small restoration with electric bike rental is located at the base. Around the Schluchsee, there is a passable hiking and cycle path. The circumnavigation on foot (ca. 25 km) is too much, which can shorten by excursion boat. Who uses one of the places on the Schluchsee as a holiday home, has short ways to the Feldberg to Freiburg, the Europa Park, on the upper Rhine, in Switzerland. The "three lakes railway", a single-track electrified railway line to Freiburg, which the Reisenede not be missed ends at the train station in Seebruck. The railway passes on the Schluchsee, the Windgfällweiher and Lake Titisee. Then it goes through the wildly romantic Höllental, from there to get into the "Kingdom of heaven", before the railway in Freiburg ends.
