  • In the former Palace of the Dukes (and surrounding area) there are several museums and all quite interesting, especially the State Museum! The more so that this German land has close ties with Russia, and it was here 10 years ago took place one of the Russian President's meetings with the leadership of Germany.

  • Went here many years ago to see the famous Nydam boat and the creepy (for us as children) bog people. Still a fantastic destination to see those unique artifacts, but also a wonderfully expanded group...  more »
  • The State Museum in the Schloss Gottorf are really impressive collections in a complex, which is worth a visit in itself. Together with the Viking Museum Haithabu is the prehistoric part of arguably one of the most comprehensive insights into the early Central European past, which we have ever visited. Unfortunately we could see us not all parts of the exhibitions in the Castle and Castle Gardens, because we spent over 6 hours in the archaeological part. This consisted of the permanent exhibition in the Castle, the new Nydamboot exhibition, the exhibition "Meat - hunters, fishermen, and trappers in the stone age", the new Viking Museum and the faithfully recreated part of the Viking Village Hedeby at the original venue. The museums contain so much information that it is probably impossible to see everything in one visit. The facilities are really excellent and the exhibitions so extensive that one actually necessarily must distribute the visit to the museums of the province of Schleswig on several days, to enjoy everything.
