Kreidefelsen, Sassnitz

4.4
#1 of 11 in Things to do in Sassnitz
Enjoy the sights from a famous beach cliff at Kreidefelsen. You can tour the visitor center of the national park, or see the famous chalk cliff from the beach, a boat tour, or a vista point off to the side. Go to the visitor center to reach the viewing area on top of the Königsstuhl (the best known chalk cliff) or to learn about the painting of the cliff by the German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich. His artwork made the area famous. The center also offers a video presentation on the cliffs and an interactive exhibition about the national park and natural history of the area. A long, steep stairway leads down to the beach. Kreidefelsen is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Sassnitz Edition.

From Sassnitz with good walking shoes, you can follow the shore at the foot of the cliff through the rollers. 'Told' that can still be found amber in the gravel, but as every year tens of thousands of tourists take a look on this side, personally, I think too much. After two hours of market, you have a choice: climb along a wooden staircase the 115 meters of elevation of the Konigsstuhl (and return to Sassnitz by bus), or further to the port of Lohe, four kilometres away (return by bus or taxi,) after climbing - another wooden staircase - 50 metres that separate you from the village , or retrace your steps. The Ballad is super-friendly, but let's say that at a certain age, a minimum of physical condition is necessary. The second possibility to see the Kreidefelsen is remotely, by boat. At least three or four "Reedereien" (shipping companies) offer this possibility to the port of Sassnitz, where they all have a ticket office, and whose representatives address the barge (no pun intended) on the seaside to offer this tour. Go one day of good weather, and in the morning: the cliffs are oriented to the East, and therefore the morning they offer the best show.

We have to consider the chalk cliffs of the ship. A great sight. On our next visit, we will certainly undertake a hike to the chalk cliffs. The trip around the island of Rügen with the ship has paid off, especially at the sight of the chalk cliffs.

Great concept. Not only great perspective. Also much information by film and exhibition, which takes one on a well-thought-out time travel. Admission is OK if you consider entertainment system and wage costs. An employee at the cliffs themselves nice also. A lot of information and safety instructions. Shuttle bus from the parking lot. Super idea.
