  • The castle of Runkel is the ruin of a high middle ages Castle in the town of Runkel and was once built by the Lords of Runkel to secure the Lahn bridge. On the opposite heights of the Lahn Schadeck Castle as a fortress, built after family disputes. High pitched, defiant walls give the character of the strength of the former Castle Runkel (now partially ruined). Unfortunately, the castle during our visit was no longer accessible (November 1). Nevertheless, it was worth to climb the old town and to visit the facility from the outside. A wonderful view on the Lahn and the opposite Lahn heights compensate denominated anyway. We will be back!

  • A beautiful castle with a very nice guided circuit, to climb up on the top floor of the castle's towers, which is a beautiful view of the Lahn River with the old bridge.

  • Quiet little town on the Lahn river, with it’s own medieval castle, as expected for this region. Beautiful scenery, half-timbered houses, 15th century stone bridge, everything together for a nice day ...  more »
