Niederwald Monument (Niederwalddenkmal), located in the landscaped park of the same name, commemorates the founding of the German Empire after the end of the Franco-Prussian War. Wilhelm I laid the monument's first stone on Sept. 16, 1871, and the complete structure measures 38 m (125 ft) tall. The monument depicts the ruler as well as army commanders and soldiers. Several peace and war statues complement the structure. Visit this site via gondola lift, rack railway, or foot trails.   • Take the trip up in the cable car. Beautiful views as you overlook the city and the Rhine. It was a lovely part of our visit to Rudesheim. Take your time and appreciate the great view!  more »

  • Simply beautiful! Breathtaking view, there's a cafe at the top too and there was even a small brass band playing yesterday!
  • Really nice viewing point. Easy to reach by car or cable cart.
  • Stunning views from up here, you can drive up or walk to save the cost of the cable car which is really not worth the trouble. Some nice walks around the park as well.
  • Great view from the top. Take the cable car up and walk down to enjoy the area.
  • It was beautiful. I'm from Mainz but live in the state's took my daughter and grandson and mother over there to visit family.... Miss it...
