Stadt Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Rothenburg

(950+ reviews on the web)
Government Building
Climb the east end tower of Stadt Rothenburg ob der Tauber to take in the views. A tight squeeze at the top of a ladder awaits those who brave the climb. Signs are a bit confusing. To climb the tower, go through the town hall's door on the side facing the square. After climbing the stairs, cross the big hall to go through the turnstile. You'll be asked for a small fee at the top. The structure began in 1250 with a Gothic-designed rear half. In 1572, construction began on the front half, crafted with Renaissance flair. • There isnt anything to see at the Town Hall, most people use it as a landmark for meeting place or if you get lost wandering around the narrow lanes. After seeing the intricate design of the town hall...  more »
  • It is a Plaza in front of City Hall are common in Germany. Square on the north side of building (on the ground floor tourist office is) is there a wind-up clock. Maybe you will find a couple cites the wedding ceremony in the town hall if you're lucky. In the buildings surrounding the square are lined with souvenir shops and cafes.

  • We were lucky to have a good day so our pictures with the classic building came out excellent. Nicely preserved, lovely as the whole city itself.  more »

  • Best view point in the tower. I suggest to go up to the tower inspite of narrow steps. You can pay the entrance fee at the top.
  • Beautiful medieval town, though too many tourists. It's a bit crazy that all of the churches here ask for an entrance fee. The town hall itself is beautiful, if you are visiting this city you must visit.
  • View from atop the tower is worth it. Seeing the sprawling walls all around is stunning. Best way to get a lay of the land before wandering town.
  • A very nice medieval city which unfortunately seems a bit too touristic now. Nevertheless, if you are in the area it's worth stopping for a few hours and looking around.
  • An lovely place to visit. I just love the architecture.
