Stadt Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Rothenburg

#3 of 28 in Sightseeing in Rothenburg
Government Building Architectural Building
Climb the east end tower of Stadt Rothenburg ob der Tauber to take in the views. A tight squeeze at the top of a ladder awaits those who brave the climb. Signs are a bit confusing. To climb the tower, go through the town hall's door on the side facing the square. After climbing the stairs, cross the big hall to go through the turnstile. You'll be asked for a small fee at the top. The structure began in 1250 with a Gothic-designed rear half. In 1572, construction began on the front half, crafted with Renaissance flair. • This is one of the most beautiful cities I knew in Germany during my visit the romantic route. I advise walking calmly to see the details of the architecture. Stop downtown for an ice cream, it's worth it!

  • Rothemburg City Council is the climax to an amazing walk through one of the most charming of Germany. It is a large building located in the market next to the old town hall square. In addition, you can climb the Tower, which is one of the highest buildings of the city. From the top are amazing views of the rooftops of the city. A true spectacle for those addicted to the panoramic views.

  • Near the restaurant, a café, a souvenir square shops. Like many you'd like to purchase a souvenir prices place after purchasing from TeX Ripon would receive.

  • Take the night watchmen tour that starts here at night, after the shops close for the day. -In English -Started at 8pm and lasted about one hour -Well worth the suggested 8€ for adults, 4€ for teens (12 and under are night watchmen's guests) Gives both old and more recent history of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. If you are staying more than one night, recommend doing this the first night as he gives suggestions for things to see during the day.
  • Best view point in the tower. I suggest to go up to the tower inspite of narrow steps. You can pay the entrance fee at the top.
  • Beautiful medieval town, though too many tourists. It's a bit crazy that all of the churches here ask for an entrance fee. The town hall itself is beautiful, if you are visiting this city you must visit.
  • View from atop the tower is worth it. Seeing the sprawling walls all around is stunning. Best way to get a lay of the land before wandering town.
  • I strongly recommend coming for the night watchmen tour. It is in English and in German (at different times). This beautiful medieval city has a story to tell. The city walls have stood the test of time and war. You can find wonderful food and interesting history here.

Where to stay in Rothenburg

Consider lodging in a guesthouse or bed and breakfast located in the city's Old Town. Lodging outside the walls may save a few dollars, however. Many lodging options are close enough to offer access to city sites on foot.
