Burgtor und Burg, Rothenburg
(4.6/5 based on 75+ reviews on the web)
Built in 1356 after the castle of Rothenburg was destroyed, Burgtor und Burg served as the city's main gate and fortification. Notice the smaller door hidden within the larger gate: this allowed a single person to pass through without opening the entire gate, thus protecting the city from possible attack. Also look for the mask face near the top of the gate, a spot into which hot tar was poured through and onto enemies. The coat of arms of both the city and the empire adorn the wood. A visit to Burgtor und Burg represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Rothenburg itinerary builder to plot your vacation.

  • Through this door accessing the Burggarten, the grounds of the medieval town of Rothenburg. Enclosed by two circular buildings, surrounded by a fine stone portal, has at its top a stone mask whose mouth was to overthrow boiling oil on enemies who approached the entrance.

  • Burgtor, is another of the access doors to Rothenburg, and that to me particularly more I liked. From Markplatz, (Town Hall), passing through Herrngasse, will arrive in a few minutes until Burgtor. The door of the Castle, Burgtor, is today the entrance to the gardens of the Castle, a small and beautifully Park, which is for the enjoyment of everyone. The banks that exist along the trails invite continuously to stop and enjoy the peace and relaxation, there is breathed out of the hustle and bustle of tourists, in the historic heart. Also from here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city and of the Tauber Valley. Not go away from Rothenburg, without stopping by here, you will like.

  • The Castle gate is the entrance to the castle garden is well worth every visit. You can adhere to the benches and watch people and the garden. At the same time, it is a double gate with high tower and sophisticated mounting. Because the environment is car-free, it is in my opinion the most beautiful gate, especially with children.
