Sankt Marien Kirche, Rostock

(4.7/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Although thousands of visitors come to admire Sankt Marien Kirche, the attraction is known mainly as a community gathering place. Locals come to worship beneath the arches and elaborately detailed altar. Visitors often join them, then continue their visit among the artworks on display in the chapel. The organs are the pride of the cathedral and are often used as part of the concerts that take place regularly from May to October. You can arrange private concerts and demonstrations by contacting the attraction before your tour; click on the "musik" (music) tab on its website. Before bringing your visit to a close, pop by Café Marientreff, which is housed in one of the former chapels. • The church is having old architecture design. The main attraction is the huge clock, it's worth watching. Never seen one like this before. Must see if you are in Rostock.  more »
  • The Church belongs to the famous Gothic brick churches and is well worth a visit most definitely. During my visit, a lot has been restored inside, but nevertheless it was worthwhile, the views of the astronomical clock. There were knowledgeable church leaders on the spot.

  • What a special things we see in the St. Marien Kirche, very impressed with the astronomical clock (1472) by Hans Düringen! The Baroque organ (1770), the revival Pulpit (1574) the Baroque Hochaltar (1720/21), just too many to mention and then is now not even to see everything because of the restoration!
