Burg Ronneburg, Ronneburg

4.4
Built mostly in the 16th century, Burg Ronneburg has a kitchen fire that's always burning during visiting hours, so you can feel the heat that a cook once slaved over. Another functioning piece of the castle is the treadmill that pulls water from the 96 m (315 ft) well inside the walls. The museum is a series of rooms dotted with furniture designed to mimic the 16th-century originals. Some of these are still painted with murals from the period. • Goods today with the family to the market at Ronneburg. Admission cost 18 euros for the family. Regular children 5 and adults €6. Parking € 2 above the Castle. Was it worth it? Yes, because we have seen a varied market at the castle the artist designs have. Especially the candy makers liked the kids. There were plenty but my opinion not really cheap for this but tasty food. Mention here once on behalf of Knight skewer (€7) or the wild boar meat loaf sandwiches (€4). We were short before the dawn there. Then the market and the castle looks really good. Who are looking for ideas, I've included with the program for 2018 as a picture. Have fun.

  • Pity we went there late evening when it was already dark, so we must have lost most of the charm that this place has to offer. Nevertheless our medevial themed dinner was an unforgettable exprience. T...  more »

  • The castle is charming but tiny. There is very little to see inside. I've been there in winter just before Christmas and there were lots of people in medieval costume. It looked like some kind of German cosplay event. Hence, lots of American tourists. The entrance ticket was expensive and all the market stalls equally expensive. The tip of the iceberg was the guy charging about 1 euro per arrow to shoot with his kids bows. No, you didn't get to take the arrows back home.
  • Nice medieval castle. A lot of fun events.
  • Went there for the Christmas Market. The whole park&ride with the bus was a mess but didn't spoil the visit. Wonderful atmosphere, beautiful castle!
  • Great Medieval experience! This was my most authentic medieval experience ever. A wonderful castle with a good collection of relics of yore. The medieval festival was a icing on the cake. Do not miss the well, it is going to leave you spellbound!
  • Great castle for a day trip. We visited during a Renaissance festival. Had a great time with a moderate and friendly crowd. Highlight for our son was the water well just inside the castle wall. Visitors were able to add €0.50 to see down to the bottom and then fill a bucket with water from an adjacent tap to then dump down the well and wait for the splash at the bottom. The castle also has amazing views from the tower. One could see the Frankfurt skyline in the distance.
