Castle Tourist Spot
Built mostly in the 16th century, Burg Ronneburg has a kitchen fire that's always burning during visiting hours, so you can feel the heat that a cook once slaved over. Another functioning piece of the castle is the treadmill that pulls water from the 96 m (315 ft) well inside the walls. The museum is a series of rooms dotted with furniture designed to mimic the 16th-century originals. Some of these are still painted with murals from the period. • Great castle for a day trip. We visited during a Renaissance festival. Had a great time with a moderate and friendly crowd. Highlight for our son was the water well just inside the castle wall. Visitors were able to add €0.50 to see down to the bottom and then fill a bucket with water from an adjacent tap to then dump down the well and wait for the splash at the bottom. The castle also has amazing views from the tower. One could see the Frankfurt skyline in the distance.
  • Amazing castle from the middle ages; in great condition and we'll taken care of to reflect the time period. Great for kids older than 3 (strollers are hard to /carry up the numerous stairs and narrow walkways).
  • Lovely old castle with a fabulous view. Medieval environment and fun. Games and delicious food. Most enjoyable experience.
  • Great for an afternoon trip.
  • Best Christmas market around.
