Arp Museum, Remagen

(4.5/5 based on 65+ reviews on the web)
Discover the work of Jean (Hans) Arp, a founding member of the Dada movement, at Arp Museum, a museum housed inside a historic railway station that's just a short drive from the city. This 19th-century building, a classic example of early German railway architecture, long served as a cultural venue for artists from around Europe. Brahms, Schumann, and Liszt gave concerts inside, while G.B. Shaw staged several of his plays here. Long neglected after World War II, the building was listed for demolition before Johannes Wasmuth, a prominent art deal, brought it back to life in the 1960s. Take a guided tour to learn more about the museum's permanent exhibits of Arp's works, as well as the temporary displays of other notable artists from around the globe. • Sculptures and paintings of contemporary artists are shown in special exhibitions in the dialog with these works. In addition, the Museum presents paintings from the middle ages to the modern from the collection out for UNICEF. A nice Miseumscafe is located in the restored former Hall of the train station (mid 19th century) with stucco ceilings, large crystal chandeliers and outdoor terrace with views of the Rhine and the Siebengebirge with the Drachenfels.

  • The ARP Museum presents works of Dadaist Hans Arp and his wife Sophie Taeuber-ARP now around 10 years. The Museum is located in a new building by Richard Meier with an area of about 3000 square meters and in an old train station building. In addition to the ARP stocks there are changing exhibitions with contemporary art, but also with historic works from the collection of rough - among them are works by Lucas Cranach the elder, Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne. The overall experience of this place, from their arrival at the railway station but is more important, larger, more insistent than all - today the transport trains stop here again every hour on their way through the Rhine Valley - about the passage through the various levels of the museum complex up to the spectacular views of the Rhine Valley, which is available here. The widely travelled Alexander von Humboldt has recorded exactly these views from here to the Siebengebirge mountains on the opposite bank of the Rhine, once in its list of the seven most beautiful views in the world.

  • for us every time a positive experience, especially if you are wine lovers and wine card by holder studied Mr Herbst and tried, to a decent kitchen with various positions. In warm weather on the terrace to sit with attentive service, increases again the sense of well-being...

  • The educational offerings are particularly good. If I get out of the Museum, I see the world through different eyes. In the summer, we ate very nicely on the balcony.

  • A fantastic Museum with wonderful architecture. Even though you maybe can do nothing with the works of ARP himself, always a thematically different exhibitions worth. It is very nice that you take with you can also usually his camera into the interesting exhibitions.
