Schloss Favorite, Rastatt

#2 of 15 in Things to do in Rastatt
Discover the opulent interiors of one of Germany's finest Baroque buildings, Schloss Favorite, the oldest of the so-called "porcelain palaces." Once a pleasure and hunting palace used by the widow of Louis William, an imperial general and ruler of Baden, the castle now houses a large collection of Chinese porcelain and lacquered ornamental objects. Originally only used for several weeks a year, the castle grounds became an idyllic setting for extravagant concerts, banquets, and hunting parties. Today, the palace is open to visitors, offering not only a look at the world's largest collection of porcelain, but also a rare insight into the lives of Europe's wealthy rulers. Be sure to spend a little time strolling through the palace's sprawling English gardens. Check online for opening times, guided tours, and ticket prices. • We were already in the Castle. You can walk there beautifully and also a guided tour of the castle is worth. In the Café on the premises serves very yummy cake!

  • Idyllically situated with a large park, car & bike to reach. The meadows at Lake provides plenty of room to lay in the Sun and the whole system is well maintained. The small Café offers also delicious ice cream in the summer. Always worth a trip!

  • Beauitiful grounds and interior. Interior only available by paid tour in German (only). Fantastic art and decadent royal wood work / oil paintings / textiles / porcelain tile.
  • I know the cakes there taste heavenly! The interior is a bit old,but it shouldnt get in the way of eating really good cake! The price is also good!
  • In this day and age, wth can't we take photos? It peeves me off. And tour is mandatory and God help you if it's not available in your language. So I'm walking around bored, looking at beautiful rooms full of beautiful stuff that I'm not allowed to photograph, the whole time knowing full well there's like 3 postcards available for purchase as well as a book made with the most cutting edge technology available in the 1950s and only in German, while the tour guide rambles on in German to a pair of octogenarians whose gait is measurable in tsetse fly lifes. Schloss Burchsal does it correctly, self guided and all the photos you might wish.
  • Perfect english style park.
  • It's a quaint little summer palace outside of Baden-Baden. Not your usual tourist spot but definitely a pleasant place for yoga, jogging or walking. The inside of the palace will only be open for visit after the 15 March as they are normally closed during winter.
