Castle Marienburg, Pattensen b Hannover

A fairy tale setting come to life, Castle Marienburg rises above a landscape of rolling hills in the lush valley of the Leine River. Once a royal summer residence, the castle was originally a gift from King George V of Hanover to his wife, Queen Marie (hence the name). Today, the majestic castle is considered one of the finest examples of neo-Gothic architecture in the country. Parts of the castle are open to the public, such as the on-site museum, restaurant, and chapel. Explore the interior on a guided tour, which provides a rare chance to see what life at a royal court used to be like. You can also visit the official website for information about upcoming concerts, exhibitions, and other special events. • The place is very scenic. The castle was constructed in the mid-19 century in neo-Gothic style. Well preserved Interior, furniture, glassware, chandeliers. Entry €9. Allowed only with a guided tour. There is an audio guide in Russian.

  • We were with an American colleague, and immediately they could inspire. The castle is very well-preserved. During the tour there are against lien of audio guides in many languages. Even to the half of people with audio guides, our group consisted of all possible countries coming. The guide was very informative and in-depth details. Also many references to the present-day language were given, what was very interesting. The guide was in itself humorous and read no questions open

  • Beautiful castle with an interesting history and ties to the British Monarchy. Audio guide was informative enough to learn more details about the castle. The only nitpick would be that you've got to s...  more »

  • Beautiful. Amazing eye candy, beamed to another century, great service, amazing wedding planning there, great food! I've done multiple weddings there (as a musician), and I love it! Always excited to go there! Happy to have such a gem stone in Hanover's area 👑
  • Interesting place, interesting story. The guide was kind and very professional. Recommended!
  • A nice castle in northern Germany. Perfect for a half-day weekend getaway if you are in Lower Saxony, such as in Hannover or surrounding towns. You can reach the bottom of the hill at about 2 km walk from Nordstemmen train station, from where you get nice views of the castle from a distance. From there, it's about 10 minutes short hike to the hill top where the castle is situated.
  • Very interesting to take the guided tour around this small but really beautiful castle.
  • Awesome castle... Not an inspiring history behind, but the best castle in terms of looks that looks like a fairy tale castle. Makes a good day trip.
