Castle Marienburg, Pattensen b Hannover

4.2
#10 of 60 in Historic Sites in Lower Saxony
Castle Tourist Spot
A fairy tale setting come to life, Castle Marienburg rises above a landscape of rolling hills in the lush valley of the Leine River. Once a royal summer residence, the castle was originally a gift from King George V of Hanover to his wife, Queen Marie (hence the name). Today, the majestic castle is considered one of the finest examples of neo-Gothic architecture in the country. Parts of the castle are open to the public, such as the on-site museum, restaurant, and chapel. Explore the interior on a guided tour, which provides a rare chance to see what life at a royal court used to be like. You can also visit the official website for information about upcoming concerts, exhibitions, and other special events. Put Castle Marienburg on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Pattensen b Hannover vacation planner.

  • We are spontaneously to Marienburg Castle, named after Queen Marie of Hannover, which had unfortunately not long from her Castle. You should arrive by car, the bus often. It doesn't take long from the parking lot to the entrance of the Castle. The Interior of the Castle and the exhibition "The road to the Crown" can be visited only with a guide. From the outside, the castle looks like in a fairy tale. The guides are informative, there are of course, not all the rooms to see, but you get a good impression. There are lots of photos, paintings, busts and private owned the last reigning Royal family of Hanover. At the end, it's still in the small chapel. The exhibition was also very interesting. Here you can see even the Crown and the scepter. My highlight was the large family painting of King George v with his wife Marie and three children. After the two guides, I was still in the Castle Shop, which is equipped with books about the Welfs and has all sorts of bells and whistles.

  • Very beautiful but expensive. They don't let anyone just wander around and you have to go by the guided tour which is very disappointing. No photographing inside, but there is a huge lovely forest to wander about. So all in all fun if you're in the area, great for an outdoors day, not the best Castle to a History buff
  • A very cool place in Lower Saxony! Absolutely worth visiting! The only one thing I didn´t like - no fotos inside are allowed :(
  • I love this place I lived for four years about 10km away. If your in the area please pay it a visit.
  • This is one of the most beautiful castle in Germany, which is used as a banner picture of German embassy website in Vietnam.
  • Very cool old Castle. You have to take the tour if you want to see inside,. It they don't show you a lot of it for some reason.
