Glasmuseum Passau, Passau

4.0
#1 of 17 in Museums in Lower Bavaria
More than just an entertaining diversion for a rainy day, Glasmuseum Passau is a wonderland of historic glass. In 1985 astronaut Neil Armstrong cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of this museum, which is filled with more than 30,000 invaluable pieces of glass and crystal, representing a variety of styles and covering centuries of glass-making history. Most of the pieces you can see at this location come from the renowned glassworks of Bohemia, though the museum also exhibits works by the famous Viennese designers. The site is quite large, and it's easy to get lost here for hours; be sure to pick up a floor plan at the entrance before heading to a section that most appeals to your interests. • ... is immense! Beautiful, nothing to say, but after a while is quite repetitive and spread over several floors without a defined line of vision.

  • exhibition on 4 more levels of 300000 glass pieces from different eras that surprise either by their form or colour as well as the know-how of the craftsmen. Need to allow time for the diversity is so great and interesting that it would be a shame to spend in Gale

  • I loved slowly going over their impressively large and esoteric glass collection. But I love museums in general, and a museum devoted to a particular niche theme is always a hoot for me. Oh, also this place was crazy. I mean, the architecture inside is completely insane. Maybe there are many buildings like this in Passau, but this one just seemed like someone haphazardly joined two buildings together. There were stairs that led to nowhere, half sized doors and windows, hallways that looked unreachable. Basically it's a fun museum to visit, especially for the price.
  • Is very much to see, unfortunately with little descriptions. The "Circuit" is very winding with too many turn-offs. Almost not to recommend for children. Bad parking
