Jagdschloss Granitz, Ostseebad Binz

4.3
#2 of 7 in Things to do in Ostseebad Binz
Once a popular holiday destination for European nobility, Jagdschloss Granitz was commissioned by the Prince of Putbus and built between 1838 and 1846. The castle remained in the hands of the Putbus family until the 1940s, when the Nazis seized it. The structure now functions as a museum operated by the state. Walk through the many rooms to learn about the history of the castle and to see the collection of old hunting rifles and furnishings from the 19th century. Head up the cantilevered cast-iron staircase of the main tower for sprawling views in all directions. The rooms with the historical data are beautiful, but the stairs to the tower and the view are super. What a nice view. From the tower you can look very far, grdn around 360. Very well worth the effort. The stairs to the top is via the outside of the inside of the tower and has "open", not for people with Vertigo.

A must for a tourist destination! Arrival with the Choo-Choo train, the frenzied Roland or on foot from the Binz. of course also with the bike; Cars are off limits! From the tower you have a fantastic view over large parts of Rügen in clear weather. But must cope with 176 levels.

Hunting Castle romantic in the forest, which can easily reach on foot or by train. Well done exhibition, to capture interesting, but not too extensive, therefore good in 30 to 45 minutes. The highlight is the Castle Tower with spiral staircase inside running; the view compensated for the rise of busy (at least in untrained).

  • Nice castle different of classic castles. Very small and at the top of a hill in the middle of a nice forest.
  • Great views and very interesting museum. You can even explore the upper levels of the castle
  • Good location, food, exhibition. Altogether more than OK for a not very long visit.
  • In the middle of the forest, wild landscape. Very recommandable in autumn or winter because of the orange coloured landscape.
  • Nice to see if you are in the region. Tower offers nice view over the whole island
