Trip Planner: Europe / Germany / Mecklenburg-West Pomerania / Rugen Island / Ostseebad Binz / Granitz Hunting Lodge
Once a popular holiday destination for European nobility, Granitz Hunting Lodge was commissioned by the Prince of Putbus and built between 1838 and 1846. The castle remained in the hands of the Putbus family until the 1940s, when the Nazis seized it. The structure now functions as a museum operated by the state. Walk through the many rooms to learn about the history of the castle and to see the collection of old hunting rifles and furnishings from the 19th century. Head up the cantilevered cast-iron staircase of the main tower for sprawling views in all directions. Plan your visit to Granitz Hunting Lodge and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Ostseebad Binz trip maker app.

Granitz Hunting Lodge reviews
We really liked our time at the Hunting Lodge (though we could not go to the Tower because it was closed due to the Covid-19 situation), What we particularly enjoyed was to go there with the... more »
I did not know what to expect when we got to this place, but the building is really something. Filled with old artifacts, antlers and paintings. And the view from the top tower is really beautiful. more »
The exhibit is really nicely set up. I liked most the „living book“ where you turn a page and the multimedia presentation starts or adjusts accordingly. Make sure you climb the special stairs up into.... more »
Great must visit location during a stay on Rügen. Beware the stairs to the tower offering great sights of a Rügen Panorama.
Very nice castle, interesting history of the local noble house of Putbus, good presentation with stuff to see and touch, combining original artifacts and construction with modern museum atmosphere. The view from the central tower across the island of Rügen is probably amazing, but it was foggy on the day of our visit. Still, the climb up the spiral stairs inside is a thrill on its own. Friendly, patient personnel, would recommend. Be aware that you can't reach the castle directly by car. You can leave your car at a parking spot (Binz Ost) and change to a shuttle, which will bring you right up to the castle grounds. The 2 km walk is also nice, though.
Absolutely gorgeous and that's coming from someone that's seen a lot of castle in Germany ... well worth the walk.
Just the inside view of it before cash counter, it is simply gorgeous
Nice hike doable by anyone. Great nature with oak trees full of lumeriously green leaves.
