Oberammergau Church, Oberammergau
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
This Rococo church, consecrated in 1749, was designed by well-regarded German architect Joseph Schmuzer. Admire the grandeur of the interior and its ample use of marble and gold. Murals depicting The Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria, the two central prayers in Catholicism, are particularly striking. Look for the representations of St. Peter and St. Paul (the church patrons) in the nave, parapets, and the high altar. It's worth taking a short walk through the well-maintained cemetery, which has many interesting headstones.
