  • There's an array of craft stores here from woodwork to toy shops. It wasn't particularly big but worth a visit. I suppose it's a bit like a German Christmas market for all year round.  more »
  • Just opposite the exit of the train station. This is a tiny village of "artisans" quaint. Recommend staying there maybe to eat something, you'll certainly turn back in time.

  • Directly between the main station and the old town within walking distance easy to reach. Here, pottery and other gifts in beautiful timber-framed buildings are found. The highlight is the restaurant, where there is the genuine Nuremberg sausages.

  • Nice little tourist trap. Big portions of food :)
  • Smaller than expected. Nice to see crafts being made, but artisans often close early.
  • Nice old construction and shops. Lots of souvenir to shop.
  • Some interesting shops, pewter tankards was a highlight. Some nice little pubs in this area with a nice atmosphere.
  • A pleasant enough place to walk through and have a look but the shops are relatively touristy. If you are really after some local craft, you would be better finding some specialty shops. Having said that, it is convenient having everything in the one place and there are some nice things here if you look beyond the non-local mass-produced stuff that some shops are trying to sell.

Where to stay in Nuremberg

The Altstadt and the Egidienviertel districts, the city's historical sections, provide an array of guesthouses and hotels. An alternative is the Gostenhof area, a suburban region with a selection of tourist sites. If you stay in Gostenhof, however, you need to take public transportation to the city center. For local flair, consider staying in the Knoblauchsland district near the Hauptmarkt. Avoid the Südstadt district near the train station, which is mainly residential and doesn't offer many entertainment options or access to sites.
