Ehekarussell, Nuremberg

(180+ reviews on the web)
Landmark
One of Nuremberg's most famous landmarks, Ehekarussell depicts the different stages of married life in the form of a fountain. The structure, commonly known as the "marriage carousel," is based on a poem by 16th-century German poet Hans Sachs. Those confident in their German-language skills can read the poem, which has been inscribed onto a heart-shaped marble slab. Otherwise, you can simply try to interpret the large figurines yourself. Circle the fountain to witness scenes of passionate love, fierce arguments, and loss. While the controversial sculpture style is not to everyone's taste, this famous attraction leaves a lasting impression. • Based on a poem by a Nurnberger, Hans Sachs, this fountain shows the 6 stages of marriage. Funny in places, the final stage is scary.  more »
  • Since 1984 the marriage carousel manufactured by Brunswick sculptor Jürgen Weber of bronze and marble adorns (correct name: Hans-Sachs fountain) the Western old town. It is six scenes from a marriage - which are sometimes quite dramatically. This scenes refers to a poem by the Nuremberg poet and Mastersinger Hans Sachs, who is standing, also part of the sculpture as a bronze figure on a separate platform: bittersweet ehlich life was God blessed and honored that has brought a frumb know me me the I zweinzig year I Brunett, God gave longer even though my ehlig life had sweet and sour often move to even probably mixed of joys and sorrows , First up, then down, ohn difference you nit always has me kochet figs Schwank Weis will indicate a part of you is a sky of my soul my punishment and hell is also often, my Angel is chosen, is often been my faith devil. She is my Wünschelrut and blessing is my shower often and downpour is my may and rose Hag, is often my Flash and Thunder, my wife is my bad often and joke, my shame, fear, and pain is often, my Rapture is and Augenweid, my Traurn is often and heartbreak is my freedom and choice, my Gfängnis and not stable is my often , It is my hope and my consolation, is often my doubt, Hitz and frost. My wife is my ornamental and pleasure, often my Graun and soup mess that is my Royal Hall, but also my illness and hospital often. My wife, which helps nourish me faithfully, Thut often my eat that me, woman, which is my my shield and protection, my outrage, pride and Trutz is often. She is my my attorney-at-law and ER lakshminarayanan, my accuser and preachers often fried and unity, and often my daily lifting dispute. My wife is my faithful friend, often also my biggest enemy, has been woman is my mietsam often and she's kind, sometimes angrily and wütig. She is my virtue and my truck is my sore and also my bed is my heart stay, and make me but grey and old. Hans Sachs, 1494-1576

  • It is the most famous and frequented Nuremberg fountain called "Wedding roundabout". It depicts different stages of family life. From the beginning of the family Idyll to hate to death. Around always plenty willing to be photographed with each sculpture, so it's best to come early.

  • Worth seeing, especially if you read the poem (Bitter-sweet married life by Hans Sachs).
  • Beautiful but I don't know what the story behind that
  • What an amazing work of art! When we discovered it we walked slowly around, fascinated about the expressiveness. Not knowing immediately that the topic was "marriage" we saw it as a description of human life, the hopeful beginnings, the dramas, finally death - and the joker laughs and laughs! Interested in art or spirituality? Then you need to visit the well!
  • beautiful place with historic architecture and modern department stores
  • Very beautiful art, worth the visit.
