Ehekarussell, Nuremberg

4.5
One of Nuremberg's most famous landmarks, Ehekarussell depicts the different stages of married life in the form of a fountain. The structure, commonly known as the "marriage carousel," is based on a poem by 16th-century German poet Hans Sachs. Those confident in their German-language skills can read the poem, which has been inscribed onto a heart-shaped marble slab. Otherwise, you can simply try to interpret the large figurines yourself. Circle the fountain to witness scenes of passionate love, fierce arguments, and loss. While the controversial sculpture style is not to everyone's taste, this famous attraction leaves a lasting impression. • I would not go to visit this place specifically, but if it is on your way, you can just check it out.  more »
  • It starts very well, going from bad to worse and ends ... bad! This is just for the Weisse Turm, at the end of the Karolinenstrasse (which starts at St. Lorenz Church). Nice, but no more than that.

  • The work of art is the representation of the marriage from the start to the death. It is an impressive work of art that fits in this city.

  • This is in the city centre and I enjoy every time being here.
  • Worth seeing, especially if you read the poem (Bitter-sweet married life by Hans Sachs).
  • Beautiful but I don't know what the story behind that
  • What an amazing work of art! When we discovered it we walked slowly around, fascinated about the expressiveness. Not knowing immediately that the topic was "marriage" we saw it as a description of human life, the hopeful beginnings, the dramas, finally death - and the joker laughs and laughs! Interested in art or spirituality? Then you need to visit the well!
  • beautiful place with historic architecture and modern department stores

Where to stay in Nuremberg

The Altstadt and the Egidienviertel districts, the city's historical sections, provide an array of guesthouses and hotels. An alternative is the Gostenhof area, a suburban region with a selection of tourist sites. If you stay in Gostenhof, however, you need to take public transportation to the city center. For local flair, consider staying in the Knoblauchsland district near the Hauptmarkt. Avoid the Südstadt district near the train station, which is mainly residential and doesn't offer many entertainment options or access to sites.
