DB Museum (German Railway Museum), Nuremberg

4.5
DB Museum (German Railway Museum) explores the history of the railway and its significance to Germany--and offers an up-close look at the oldest surviving steam train in Germany and the royal carriage of Bavarian King Ludwig II. Learn about the construction of the German railway; the living conditions of those who worked on it; and how developments in technology, business, and politics have shaped the rail industry. Don't miss the Railroad in Miniature exhibit, where you can observe how railways operate on more than 500 m (1,640 ft) of track and 30 different detailed trains. Most of the information is written in German, so pick up an English audio guide if you can't read the local language. • We all loved it, adults and young daughter. You can walk in between impressive trains, and enough variation, from trains to communication, from looking to doing.  more »
  • There is something really for everyone. The Museum for all generations and on the top floor is a really great children's area with wooden railway to the play and KIBALA Express for the ride. Our little girl now 14 months here had great fun. Unfortunately, we could see not all areas, since some are refurbished. But we will be back I'm sure.

Where to stay in Nuremberg

The Altstadt and the Egidienviertel districts, the city's historical sections, provide an array of guesthouses and hotels. An alternative is the Gostenhof area, a suburban region with a selection of tourist sites. If you stay in Gostenhof, however, you need to take public transportation to the city center. For local flair, consider staying in the Knoblauchsland district near the Hauptmarkt. Avoid the Südstadt district near the train station, which is mainly residential and doesn't offer many entertainment options or access to sites.
