Rumored to be the inspiration for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Frankenstein Castle holds a lot of stories and history within its walls. Hike up from the center of town to take a look inside this ancient castle, or go for a walk in the surrounding woods. Every Sunday, a knowledgeable writer offers a free tour of the castle to explain the history and legends and answer any questions. German-speakers can book a "horror banquet," an interactive theatrical experience. Around Halloween, the castle is transformed into a haunted house. • Nice place to visit during the week, not crowded, beautiful vistas, very interesting castle structure, you can climb to the top. Restaurant on-site looks & smells great, and has amazing sweeping views of the town & valleys, but we didn't have enough time during this visit.
  • Really worth the trip. There's a nice restaurant right next to the ruins, and most of the towers are accessible. I would recommend going in summer
  • I was there in 1973, what a place. Your mind goes back to the time of the monster. The land and the area is just like the movie.
  • I was there in 1982 and it was great. I was station in the Army out side of Darmstat.
  • it was here that my ancestor created a creature from parts of dead bodies and his assistant was suppose to give him a good brain but by accident he gave the creature an abnormal evil brain. what a dumbass! joseph l. von frankenstein
