Rumored to be the inspiration for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Burg Frankenstein holds a lot of stories and history within its walls. Hike up from the center of town to take a look inside this ancient castle, or go for a walk in the surrounding woods. Every Sunday, a knowledgeable writer offers a free tour of the castle to explain the history and legends and answer any questions. German-speakers can book a "horror banquet," an interactive theatrical experience. Around Halloween, the castle is transformed into a haunted house. • Came to foggy day with low thin clouds, the most that even visitors, except we didn't have. Liked children, that could be in the machine itself to make the coins with the image of the Castle. But the good thing is that in the 14 km long and 19 km 2 are fortresses.

  • This was such an enchanting experience. When we arrived we were the only tourists. It was mid-winter so everything was frosted over. It was so incredible to explore this sight alone and in such a wonderful setting. I would absolutely recommend stopping here if you are traveling in the area.
  • Halloween at Burg Frankenstein runs on weekends during October, usually through the first weekend of November. Zombies, werewolves and other monsters wonder the castle grounds while you walk through. Unlike Halloween Haunt events in America these creatures are allowed to touch you so be prepared! It's most fun in a small group. You park about 15 minutes away (or take the train) and a free shuttle bus takes you to the castle. Fest style themed food and Drink are available on site and it's always busy. Tickets are available online and do sell out. The VIP experience is expensive but includes a buffet and place to sit down. Families are encouraged to go on Sunday. Friday and Saturday and adult oriented.
  • This is a great tour it is the castle from the story about the Frankenstein monster. weather it was true or not it still is a nice place to visit maybe you will see some monsters.
  • Nice place with a great view on eberstadt and Darmstadt if the atmosphere is clear enough. If your are not into hike or biking there a parking lot very close to the castle and a restaurant but we didn't try it.
  • Great to head here during Halloween for their annual open aired haunted castle. Food and drinks via VIP tix!
