  • This museum is a must for anyone who is fascinated by history. For you non German-speakers - everything is in English! For you German speakers, they have FREE lectures by renowned experts on a regular basis. For example, I attended a lecture about the "extermination camps" in Poland (different from a concentration camp) by the author of a book on the subject. Copies of his book and others are on sale in the bookshop. (Some books are in English - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler & Stalin by Timothy Snyder.)
  • Fantastic Museum. Spent four hours here and didn't have enough time. It is recommended to start at the top and work your way down each floor. Also, they have chairs to sit on. Take one. My back got sore from all the standing.
  • An incredibly honest look in the rise of the Nazi party and socialism in Munich from the end of the first world war through to the end of the second world war, and the impact on the lives of people right up in the 90s. Start at the top of the building and work your way down, there's a lot of text on display so take one of the seats on offer, and allow a good couple of hours to go through all the displays. The museum is built on the site of the Brown House, and next door are the remains of one of the temples, the other being across the road. A fascinating look in the history of Munich, and definitely a must see.
  • This museum contained a ton of information about the rise and fall of socialism and the Nazi party in Munich (and Germany). Like others, the hours I spent here whizzed by and there was still more content to explore. The audio guide was good, as was the written information. The narrative was factual and direct, even when covering difficult subjects.
  • This is primarily a documentation facility, though has a reasonably-priced self-guided tour that charts the rise of national socialism in Germany from the end of the first world war and the attendant confusion. Much of the material on display is text-heavy so if you plan on seeing the whole lot, take one of the chairs they offer at the ticket desk! Interestingly, the building housing the documentation centre is located on the site of the Nazis party headquarters. Important site to see just how easily monstrous dictators can come to power and how it must not be allowed to happen again. There is a small cafe in the basement, and regular events in the auditorium.

The St. Paul district is the site of Munich's yearly Oktoberfest and offers easy access to the city center. You may be able to find accommodation deals in the Am Schlachthof district, which is populated with small businesses and artists.
