It now houses the city's government administration. Stand in Marienplatz square to admire the intricate detailing and regal decoration of the 100 m (328 ft) long main facade. • This is part of the Munich landscape and if you are in Munich for the first time then by all means visit. It is easy to access as part of the Marienplatz.  more »
  • This magnificent building at Marienplatz Alter used as a new City Hall after from the Rathaus. Majestic non-pretty. You have to allocate some time for you to review. Has a lot of detail. If you prefer, you can also enter into. In addition, you can watch the scenery out the tower. Located in the Tower the Bell Tower at 11 43 tunes and in one Tower located in the doers of the figures.

  • The city lies on the Marienplatz, within the walls of the old city. Munich was heavily bombed during the war and I think it's just the same prefecture. The other buildings of the square are all new. Were built in medieval style, but I can see that is new, so not so funny. Up to the doorways of the town had to be rebuilt. Already the City Hall looks original and is very beautiful. Now in the summer, was full of flowers in balconies, a whim! There is that famous clock that has the dolls, with King, Queen and Knights, which simulate medieval scenes at 11 and at 5:00 pm is cute to see the show, but not super. I think it's something you do once in a lifetime and then not repeat (although I have done 2 times, the first was for more than 30 years, so I forgot). If you are passing, suddenly it costs wait for hours to see the show. Even during off-peak times, you can see the dolls and take pictures. Free event. Just stay in the square, standing, waiting.

  • Breathtaking! Spectacular! Once I saw it I became speechless for like a min or so! Then I mistakenly entered the actual Rathaus! I lifted to the top level searching for viewpoint😂 Than I understood that it's not supposed for tourists because there were only personnel!) I'll never forget this little adventure of mine)
  • A must if in Munich. Beautiful inside building inside and out. In the winter, enjoy a gluwein at a bar across the Plaza while enjoying the view
  • Stunning building externally (we didn't go in). Be aware, if you came for the Glockenspiel, it only performs in the morning in winter (1700/5pm performance is only in summer). The Christmas Market is now finished for the year.
  • Breathtaking building. Visit at noon to see famous Rathaus-Glockenspiel show.
  • Beautiful structure, I can take a picture from anywhere and it looks great!

Where to stay in Munich

The St. Paul district is the site of Munich's yearly Oktoberfest and offers easy access to the city center. You may be able to find accommodation deals in the Am Schlachthof district, which is populated with small businesses and artists. Glockenbachviertel is the center of the city's nightlife with bars, clubs, and restaurants lining the streets. In contrast, Am alten Südfriedhof is a quiet residential district.
