Museum Villa Stuck, Munich

Architectural Building
An outstanding example of an Art Nouveau interior, Museum Villa Stuck is a museum entirely devoted to the life and work of renowned artist Franz Stuck. Located in a historic mansion that was designed by Stuck and built in 1898, the museum now houses some of the artist's finest paintings. Stuck was deeply involved in every stage of the mansion's construction and decoration, even designing furniture, for which he won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris World Exposition. Though Stuck became known as the city's "prince of painters," many of his ardent admirers consider his most interesting and beautiful work the "Bronze Amazon," a sculpture now situated inside the museum's front portico. • Munich has some lovely art nouveau (judendstil, as it's known there) architecture. Stuck Villa is a must see. Simply amazing interior and photos of the villa under construction and in its heyday. In t...  more »

  • A very unusual museum or rather a private collection made public of different works of art. Also the villa itself could be seen as a piece of art itself. Every room has it own style and feeling.
  • No English brochures for the house side of the museum. Was not impressed by the permanent collection. The photo exhibit was very good, though.
  • Too small
  • Franz von Stuck is well worth a visit. In addition, there are temporary exhibitions of modern art.
