Museum Villa Stuck, Munich

4.0
#11 of 23 in Historic Sites in Munich
Art Museum Architectural Building
An outstanding example of an Art Nouveau interior, Museum Villa Stuck is a museum entirely devoted to the life and work of renowned artist Franz Stuck. Located in a historic mansion that was designed by Stuck and built in 1898, the museum now houses some of the artist's finest paintings. Stuck was deeply involved in every stage of the mansion's construction and decoration, even designing furniture, for which he won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris World Exposition. Though Stuck became known as the city's "prince of painters," many of his ardent admirers consider his most interesting and beautiful work the "Bronze Amazon," a sculpture now situated inside the museum's front portico. • First of all, a praise to the kindness and cheeriness of the staff on duty. We were late, with just a half hour before closing time, we didn't have enough cash to pay for three tickets, but the kind l...  more »
  • The neighborhood is an incredible refinement. The vila is his image and the image of Stuck: brilliant, oiled, rich and decorated. Too bad that the price of the entrance n not include rooms of the second floor which makes it high.

  • Okay, I will admit that the temporary art installation was so awful it was funny, but the areas devoted to Stuck, a painter of some skill, were worth seeing. His whole house is an art project, heavy o...  more »

  • Always worth going. I love the special exhibitions. Manifesto in 02/2017 is a must.
  • A very unusual museum or rather a private collection made public of different works of art. Also the villa itself could be seen as a piece of art itself. Every room has it own style and feeling.
  • No English brochures for the house side of the museum. Was not impressed by the permanent collection. The photo exhibit was very good, though.
  • Too small
  • Munich, June 2nd, 2017 thanks to Roland Wenniger and Michael Buhrs, Christine Rauert and I were allowed to make a tour of the student exhibition. It has made us much joy and great fun. And we had never expected such great interest. Munich holds what of good design. And that's wonderful! All the best and continue to many visitors. Nelly Fleckhaus Hamburg

Where to stay in Munich

The St. Paul district is the site of Munich's yearly Oktoberfest and offers easy access to the city center. You may be able to find accommodation deals in the Am Schlachthof district, which is populated with small businesses and artists. Glockenbachviertel is the center of the city's nightlife with bars, clubs, and restaurants lining the streets. In contrast, Am alten Südfriedhof is a quiet residential district.
