Hofgarten, Munich

4.4
#8 of 14 in Parks in Munich
Garden Nature / Park
For some quiet time during your sightseeing, stop at Hofgarten, between the English Garden and Munich Residenz. The Italian Renaissance garden was built in 1613, and features gravel paths, fountains, flower beds, and a cafe. Look for the Temple of Diana in the center of the garden. In the northeast corner, a square, black granite memorial is dedicated to the White Rose group, whose members were executed for a nonviolent campaign against Hitler's regime. In warm weather, you may find musicians playing in the garden, as well as locals playing boccie ball on the gravel paths. Our Munich vacation trip planner makes visiting Hofgarten and other Munich attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Where to stay in Munich

The St. Paul district is the site of Munich's yearly Oktoberfest and offers easy access to the city center. You may be able to find accommodation deals in the Am Schlachthof district, which is populated with small businesses and artists. Glockenbachviertel is the center of the city's nightlife with bars, clubs, and restaurants lining the streets. In contrast, Am alten Südfriedhof is a quiet residential district.

  • Great place to relax on the terrace or just sitting in the grass. Starbuck right there for Coffee or beer in the beergarden. I often go there when I have a hard day and it always relaxes me so I can go on with the day.
  • The weather was sunny and warm when we visited and there was a gentleman busking in the central pavilion. He was very talented. A very pleasurable experience all round
  • Nice sitting possibility. Oftentimes there are artists playing instruments in the small monument which lies in the middle of the park. Very beautiful when the sun shines.
  • Nice, quiet garden that looked like it would be nice in spring. All the fountains were covered when I was there even though it was February
  • Beautiful park to go to if you're visiting the city for the first time. Also, there are more interesting places located nearby, such as the Munich Residenz and Hofbräuhaus.
