Bier- und Oktoberfestmuseum, Munich

3.6
#18 of 42 in Museums in Munich
To get more familiar with two important aspects of Bavarian culture, pay a visit to Bier- und Oktoberfestmuseum. Inside Munich's oldest townhouse, a heritage-protected building from 1340, the museum explains the production of beer and the evolution of the culture surrounding it. Memorabilia from Oktoberfest celebrations over the years, as well as many photos, help illustrate the history of this great tradition. After your visit, enjoy some typical Bavarian cuisine in the restaurant, accompanied--of course--by a beer. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Munich holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Bier- und Oktoberfestmuseum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This is a small museum. It shows the bavarian beer tradition and gives some impressions of the Oktoberfest in Munich and the history. It's worth a visit.  more »

  • Really not so easy to find located in a small side street. Great Museum, just the right size for one or two hours 'Culture'. Interesting architecture, therefore not only worth watching for fans of beer. Unfortunately the connected Museumsschänke serves only dinner meal. But beer is there all day!

  • Great beer and food at very reasonable prices served in an gothic building with parts that dates back to 1250. Have a look at the museum as well. Recommended!
  • I didn't had the time to see it all, since it was just one of the stops of a guided tour, but it is very nice
  • Best beers in town. Cozy place. It's perfect if you want to have few Munchen beers. Highly recommended if you are a tourist. Dark beer is amazing!
  • The tiny but well arranged museum is worth att visit! Already the building from the 13th century was beautifully restored. We also liked the informative film about the history of brewing. Too bad we didn't have time to visit the Stüberln and have a beer . Next time in Münich 🍻!
  • Really nice little museum, surprisingly big inside and with some signs in English

The St. Paul district is the site of Munich's yearly Oktoberfest and offers easy access to the city center. You may be able to find accommodation deals in the Am Schlachthof district, which is populated with small businesses and artists.
