Bier- Und Oktoberfestmuseum, Munich

(3.4/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
To get more familiar with two important aspects of Bavarian culture, pay a visit to Bier- Und Oktoberfestmuseum. Inside Munich's oldest townhouse, a heritage-protected building from 1340, the museum explains the production of beer and the evolution of the culture surrounding it. Memorabilia from Oktoberfest celebrations over the years, as well as many photos, help illustrate the history of this great tradition. After your visit, enjoy some typical Bavarian cuisine in the restaurant, accompanied--of course--by a beer. For Bier- Und Oktoberfestmuseum and beyond, use our Munich holiday planner to get the most from your Munich vacation.

  • Who likes to drink beer, should look at necessarily this small museum lovingly crafted and preserved with as much attention to detail. Also the Oktoberfest which after all has a historical background, you should look at. Today, so much is lost and many of the guests who know bayrisch, to the Oktoberfest, Oktoberfest, not at all! It's not only, forgive me the expression, booze, the biggest folk festival, but socializing! Beautiful moments spend together, happy and funny, good Bavarian cuisine, this is the real meaning of this feast! Be sure to visit!

  • Dismal Museum without interest other than the architecture of an old House. Objects without interest, explanation almost exclusively in German, rare English signs. And €4 entrance.

  • Best beers in town. Cozy place. It's perfect if you want to have few Munchen beers. Highly recommended if you are a tourist. Dark beer is amazing!
  • We went here during "Nacht der Museen". The way the visitor was guided was rather confusing and there are only a few, not so interesting things to have a look at. The most interesting part was the house itself which made someone feel like being in an earlier age. The restaurant looked quite inviting, though.
  • I love drinking here. One of the few places in Munich where you have a choice of what beer to drink. If you also book in advance they off a blind tasting of the big six Munchener breweries, which is a great way to determine your favourite
  • Very tiny museum, some interesting things to see. Did not try the food.
  • Bier- & Oktoberfest-Museum is interesting and not only for beer drinkers. I don’t drink alcohol and it was still great experience for me. Located in Munich’s oldest historic town house, it’s a hidden jewel and represents authentic Bavarian tradition. Tiny exhibition offers beer mugs and other Oktoberfest bits and pieces since early 1900s. You’ll also learn about the history of beer and see artifacts related to beer’s production. I got a feeling that this museum has a pretty strong focus on tourists coming to Munich from around the world. This is in no way a con, just my observation.
