Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Germany  /  Bavaria  /  Upper Bavaria  /  Munich  /  Asam Church
Get a close look at the impressive Late Baroque architecture and intricate detailing of Asam Church. The tiny church was constructed as a private chapel in the mid-18th century. It features a beautiful main sanctuary of floor-to-ceiling frescoes and ornate Baroque decor. Note the magnificent wax statue of St. Johann Nepomuk in the pillar-enclosed high altar. Look up to see "Life of Saint Neopmuk," the ceiling fresco by Cosmas Daminan Asam. Next door to the church, you can stop by the Asam House to see its South German rococo stucco exterior and ornamentation. The Asam brothers acquired it in 1733. • Beautiful, ornate baroque style church. It's very small. Mass was being celebrated when we visited, so we didn't get to see much or stay long.  more »
  • Beautiful church in Munich I can't! It passes almost off, the facade is so narrow, but here you get an impression how magnificently's will continue inside. The Church was planned but private chapel, the ASAM brothers had to grant access of the population but, otherwise they had not received planning permission. The two Asambrüder were even fresco painter, sculptor and Plasterers, had probably direct view from his bedroom on the high altar. And even though inside is very small, so overloaded as it not great in the Bavarian late Baroque church. So much stucco and ornaments so space - so much exuberant pageantry, just beautiful. Gold where the eye looks. A nice break from the hustle and bustle and all the shops outside the large wooden doors.

  • Very beautiful temple! The abundance of decor! Friendly attendants. The exterior gives way to domestic. Paintings.

  • Nice historic church. Old architecture and painting on the ceiling is awesome. There is a basement cellar too were ppl can go and pray, interior of this basement room is not altered, it still looks old and rusting. Really nice to see that
  • A must see while in Munich. The inside of this baroque church is one big art piece and defies description. With something to gawk at in all directions the jaw dropping images are off the charts. Nestled in a shopping district a short walk from Marienplatz it takes little effort to see this gem after arriving by train. This like many churches and cathedrals worth seeing hold regular services so be respectful but don't rush while you take in all this site has to offer.
  • The church is jaw dropping . The baroque style of art hits you in the face straight away. It's small but it's absolutely stunning. Worth a visit when in Munich
  • Small but incredible piece of art. Defiantly worth a visit. It's near Ubhan station U3 so easy to reach.
  • This church is overwhelming, but beautifully baroque. You'd never know the gross splendor that lies inside by looking at the exterior. It's entirely overdone with baroque architecture and your eye darts around, unsure of where to look. But, for that reason, it's worth a quick stop. And, it's right in the old town so easy to get to.
