An elegant monument perched on the banks of the Isar River, Angel of Peace (Friedensengel) was built to commemorate the 25 years of peace following the end of the Franco-Prussian war in 1871. The monument and its small temple show the portraits of several German emperors and notable figures in Bavarian history, including Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and General Helmuth von Moltke. The temple's interior is decorated with golden mosaics depicting the allegories of war and peace. The statue of the angel sits atop a 38 m (125 ft) Corinthian column, below which is a large fountain with dolphin-shaped waterspouts. For unobstructed view of the surrounding area, take one of two monumental staircases leading to an observation deck at the foot of the column. • There is a wide view on Munich probably from the terrace of the peace monument, but there are nicer and more spectacular views. The Prince Regent road out of town over the ISAR and the Luitpoldbrücke is visible from afar. The 18m high monument with Angel of peace in 1895 by the city of Munich, in commemoration of the Treaty of Versailles and the then "25 years peace" instituted. The complex with fountains, flowerbeds and Road roundabout is reminiscent of Paris.

  • The angel of peace, one of the banks of the river Isar. It is a reminder to the free-Prussian War. It is a completely Golden figure, located atop a Corinthian column. The square that surrounds it is very cute!

  • The monument was designed in 1891 by Jacob Möhl, who created an elaborate structure with a fountain in front of a large terrace adorned with a column of height and crowned with an angelic golden statue.

  • The walk to this area was very nice. We were able to walk through a bit of the underground pass to get to it which has a lot of nice graffitti art. When you get to the angel of peace it is very nice to look at and take some photos. Worth it to visit if it's along your route.
  • One of Munich's symbols. Worth making that stroll along the Isar.
  • The statue itself is beautiful, and its base is a good place to hangout and drink a couple of beers with friends.
  • Easy walk from where I am staying. Looks beautiful at sunset when the sun hits the angel just right. We came in the winter so the fountains were off I will have to try again during a different season.
  • Beautiful place in Munchen German
