#5 of 12 in Breweries in Upper Bavaria
For a traditional taste of Bavarian food and culture, visit Altes Hackerhaus, a large brewery and restaurant in the center of Munich. The rebuilt site contains seven distinctly decorated rooms, as well as a beer garden in the courtyard. Sample from more than a dozen different beers brewed on site, while enjoying homemade Bavarian food, such as their famous pork steak with potato dumplings (schweinshaxe). • The décor is very typical and pretty but Munich is filled with breweries in this genre, however food is very basic for the price charged and the service is HORRIBLE! The waitresses must be of those nostalgic for the 1940s, or so they are guardians of the day and waitresses prisons at night (Dachau is not far from Munich). Avoid at all costs, except for the masochists may...

  • I was often in the old Hackerhaus guest. The meals meet the typical local dishes. In addition to a fresh side salad, I enjoyed one of my favorite dishes, a Sauerbraten with dumplings. Unfortunately, my stomach had no place more for an Apple Strudel with vanilla sauce... For that I promised myself a drink for digestion. Here, you can just keep the shot glass as a souvenir. A nice gesture... The service is also original: directly, briefly and barely in the communication and still welcome if you are looking for the conversation. All dishes served surprisingly fast, but flavorful and made absolutely good quality. The premises are decorated with famous Bavarian faces and objects from the history of hacking Pschor although slightly dark, but tastefully. The old Hackerhaus is a secure value and recommended if you want to enjoy good Bavarian cuisine.

  • We have been here more than once and we always enjoyed. Very fast service, great food and a wide choice on the menu of traditional Bavarian dishes, average prices in Munich. Indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately within no AC and in summer is a problem.

  • Nice small beer hall/restaurant. Never had the opportunity to try their beers before so enjoyed the opportunity. The staff were really nice and the beer was good. If you're looking for a cosy spot to get a beer this is a good choice.
  • Our first night in Munich after a long and delayed flight we wanted to start the trip right with the right mood for the German trip. Altes hackerhaus. Saw they had seating and looked fun so we went right on in. The open space is of course just like a beer hall. Plenty of people drinking and eating. Our Dirndl wearing server was jovial and sat us at a nice table along the window. We went for the beer of course plus the assortment of sausages and schnitzel. The portions were large as in the Schnitzel could easily feed two people. Thankfully, we were sharing. The beer was cold the food was good from that I know and everyone was friendly. Seemed like a great start to the trip! Of course we had to end the meal with apple strudel with warm vanilla sauce...of course we do. Thankfully, I'm on vacation and plenty of walking they days ahead to the calories where okay right? We enjoyed the meal. It was hearty and comforting on a cold Munich night. I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the trip
  • Perfect lunch, perfect Service... 5 stars plus ☺! Good beaf, tipical bavarian food easy to taste. Fast, professional and polite waiters. Lovely Place.
  • I was a little concerned in the beginning, as I read the comments only after we had booked for a business dinner here. But it turned out that everything was just fine, even though it was very packed due to Christmas time. All of our (partly foreign) colleagues/guest were quite fond of the place, obviously impressed by its Bavarian style, and confirmed that their meals also were delicious (like my Zwiebelrostbraten). As for the prices: well, it's Munich. Nothing comes cheap here. So it's rather on the higher end. However, there are other places not far away (Spatenhaus, Augustiner, Weißes Brauhaus) which have comparable prices (and quality...)
  • I did not actually eat here, but we sat down at a table for a few minutes. The interior is unique, historic, nice, but the service was not paying much attention to our table, and we were somewhat hesitant what to order... we walked out. Still, I consider this to be a nice place under different conditions.
