Mission
St. Trudpert's Abbey (Kloster St. Trudpert) is a former Benedictine monastery in Münstertal in the southern Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, now the principal house of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Trudpert.HistoryAccording to tradition, St. Trudpert's Abbey originated with Saint Trudpert, an Irish missionary and martyr in the southern Black Forest in the first half of the 7th century. He established a hermitage in Münstertal which became a monastery in the 9th century, and which by, at the latest, 900 had expanded to a monastic community supported by the influential noble family of the Liutfride. It is recorded that relics of Trudpert were translated to the abbey in 901 and shortly after 965.The abbey's development during the next few centuries seems to have been peaceful: no involvement either in ecclesiastical reform or in the Investiture Controversy is recorded. The community's estates lay principally in the Münstertal, the Breisgau, the Ortenau and in Alsace. It also acquired the lordship of Tunsel and the parishes of Münstertal, Grunern, Krozingen, Tunsel, Laufen, Biengen and others.

  • Very often I walk from my house to the Monastery St. Trudpert. A walk along the stream there is all seasons nice. All of the distance one can see the onion towers. The well-tended cemetery, the gebouwenkomplex and the Interior of the Baroque church have a romantic look. Here one comes to rest. One can drink coffee or dine at the nearby Gasthaus Kreuz. Every september there is a monastery party. Then one can participate in a guided tour of the monastery. In addition, hiking in the monastery garden and culinary products from market stalls to buy this garden. From the station in Münstertal is one within ten minutes at the monastery. When one is in Münstertal will stay, a visit to this point of interest very worth it!

  • Beautiful and awe inspiring, this Baroque style cathedral should not be missed. Sit in the pew and take a long look around and above you. There are no words to express its beauty.  more »
  • The Benedictines built the cloister in 815 to live and work according to the rules of the order of St. Benedict. Within the walls of the cloister, the provincial House of the congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Marc (private part closed to the public). The former Church of the Abbey (open to the public), masterpiece of baroque art, became the parish church of the Münstertal Valley. You can admire a magnificent high altar with 2 side altars, other altars in the side corridors, very beautiful frescos above the choir. Between the parking area and the Church, do not forget to stop a few moments in the perfectly maintained cemetery where a small chapel was erected.

  • Quiet, but impressive place with an atmosphere.
  • The perfect place for relaxation, inner contemplation, reflection, and interesting encounters. Simple but functional rooms, cheap, down-home food. The Black Forest, the destination is a quasi feet.
