Though much of Burg Meersburg Castle, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany, is occupied by the descendants of Carl Mayer von Mayerfels, more than 30 decorated rooms are open to the public. Discover what the fortress would have looked like in the Middle Ages as you wander through the armory, bathhouse, kitchen, knights' hall, and dungeon. Important German poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff lived here from 1841 to 1848, and you can see her living quarters and the room where she died. The tour includes access to one of the castle's towers with views of the Lower City and surrounding area. End your visit with a cup of coffee and a sweet from the onsite cafe in a grand Baroque hall. Guided tours are available in German. Audio guides are available in English. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Meersburg (Bodensee) holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Burg Meersburg Castle and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

If you want to see a proper Castle, perfect. Here you can immerse in the middle ages. Already at the train bridge you will welcomed from a proper soldier with spear, guarded access. Beautiful view of the castle on Lake ConstanceView original -

A great castle stop. A medieval castle that had been well taken care of so you can really experience what it would have been like to stay there.

Was beautiful. There are many different tours you can take to explore areas that you are not able to see alone. It was very interesting. Definitely a most see.

It is another must for people visiting Lake of Constance. One of the oldest castle in Germany.

Well kept castle. Fantastic views and history. Friendly staff. Agree that it is not as well kept as National Trust properties but a lot of effort has gone in nevertheless. It must be a v difficult property to maintain. Would be great to have more in English, but it was good to practise my German!

Well preserved castle with a decent armory. I really enjoyed walking through the castle. There is a guided tour but we chose to go without
