Burg Meersburg Castle, Meersburg (Bodensee)

(4.5/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Though much of Burg Meersburg Castle, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany, is occupied by the descendants of Carl Mayer von Mayerfels, more than 30 decorated rooms are open to the public. Discover what the fortress would have looked like in the Middle Ages as you wander through the armory, bathhouse, kitchen, knights' hall, and dungeon. Important German poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff lived here from 1841 to 1848, and you can see her living quarters and the room where she died. The tour includes access to one of the castle's towers with views of the Lower City and surrounding area. End your visit with a cup of coffee and a sweet from the onsite cafe in a grand Baroque hall. Guided tours are available in German. Audio guides are available in English. Put Burg Meersburg Castle and other Meersburg (Bodensee) attractions into our Meersburg (Bodensee) vacation planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • This was the best castle we saw. The views were spectacular for the lake. This is a must if you are in this part of the country.
  • This Castle had a rustic feel that takes you back in time. Well worth the visit. 19 euros for 2 adults. Bit pricey but it has a lot of artifacts and original contents that tells a story.
  • I visited the castle in October 2016. From the outside, the Castle makes no good impression. Unfortunately you also not better looks from the inside. You can explore the castle with management as well as on your own. The castle is very interesting and worth a visit, with all facilities, exhibits, etc. This is done but unfortunately (damp, moldy and vergammelte rooms) again by the very poor state to niece. Conclusion: After the 1.5-hour stay with guide and private tour, the horror of a cultural good is very large. Never before I have visited such a castle (not only Castle in the Rhineland looks like). Just very bad. Once and never again.

  • Small but very interesting keep (or castle?). The entry price is included in the some ship tickets. Different rooms with various information on the Jeep's life.
  • Beautiful caste with spots that have a great view across the Bodensee. Option to walk by yourself or take a guided tour.
  • I was in Germany for a month and I saw everything while I was there but this castle was the best place I went. My breath was taken away. On top of it being so full of rich history, it is the only castle that I went to (I went to 7) that let you walk through the entire building. It was really great to be able to see the whole place like it was intended to be seen. I love this museum.
