  • Somewhere I read that this is the best baroque church in southwestern Germany. Sorry, I don't concur with that opinion. It is nice but not nearly as elaborate as either Weis or Birnau. Not far from th...  read more »
  • Magnificent church!! A peaceful setting to contemplate and pray. So majestic and grand and awe inspiring history.
  • I was close to the Jesuit church at Mannheim decades guest, and if Sunday morning the bells sounded, it was almost out of bed... Now we were back in Mannheim and saw again the Jesuit church in all its Baroque splendour. It is the former Church of the electors... And so the Jesuits also farm lodges, out of which the Prince and his family of the fair attended. We looked at the Church - it is pure Baroque - and that means lots of gold and much curved elements - as we know from this style here. For us, it remains a matter of taste – marvel at the many jewelry items we had to anyway. Elector Karl Philipp prompted the construction of the Jesuit church, but when the Prince died in 1742 the construction came to a standstill. Only under elector Karl Theodor was further developed and completed in 1760. The Church was destroyed in the war. If you look at pictures that appear in the side aisle, we must marvel at, that the entire interior has been again so beautifully constructed and restored. Even the high altar was reconstructed. About ranking up to the Tabernacle, the scene of the disciples of Emmaus is depicted on its door, large columns seek to top and figures of St. Ignatius and the St. Fanz Xaver, Saint of the Jesuits, are there to see. Before that is the altar table, where the mass is celebrated today. He is filigree with branches of the rose-Bush - on the branches designed several silver reliefs with scenes from the life of Jesus. Tip: when you leave the Church, or maybe it already you noticed upon entering: the ornate wrought-iron grille with the initials of the elector Karl Theodor and his wife Elisabeth Auguste and Moreover the Crown with cross.
