Schloss Rochsburg, Lunzenau

4.5
#49 of 57 in Historic Sites in Saxony
Castle Tourist Spot
Rochsburg Castle, which was probably founded in the late 12th century, stands on a rock spur, surrounded on three sides by the Zwickau Mulde river, above the eponymous town quarter in Lunzenau in Saxony. The medieval site and its division into the inner bailey, outer bailey and two zwingers is still easy to recognise. In its present appearance the schloss dates, however, to the Late Gothic and Renaissance periods. Its main construction phases date to 1470 and 1548; it is an important example of Renaissance architecture in Saxony. Over centuries the Rochsburg has formed the centrepiece in the Saxon district of Rochsburg.

  • The castle is picturesquely situated on the hill above the River, you can drive the car until shortly before the door (2 minutes walk) or through the Valley beautiful run high the mountain. A well-preserved wall battlements, a picturesque Battlement and small courtyards with a well received there. We had a guided tour on the Tower, real knowledge - and worth seeing. At the Museum then a good overview about the premises, and the best was the exhibition on the changing clothes of the last centuries, well described and life-size representation well within reach for children. A trip worth also to concerts in the Castle.

  • Lured by a report on the special exhibition: "the Jülich sugar Banquet" we visited on Easter Saturday the Castle Rochsburg. The way then not really well drawn out was unfortunately from the highway, especially as there was still a redirect. Also the parking fee 1 euro per started hour - to pay in advance a deterrent only once. The castle itself with its exhibitions was very interesting, it was done much to give remarkable insight into life at all times on the Rochsburg visitors. E.g. the old garments for the Kleideraustellung to runstitched have been so. And also about the masters and mistresses of Rochsburg (Schönburg in Glauchau) much was learned. The admission price is very moderate with 4 euro and it is worthwhile in any case. The visit of the Chocolatencafes in the courtyard for lovers. But there is a self-service coffee machine in the Office space. The employees are always nice and helpful. The Tolietten are very modern and clean. We have not looked the outer Castle because of the wet and windy weather.

  • Have this unique Castle witnessed facility as a small child. And more often in GDR times to visit have been dar she looked not so good as it is today. A thank you to the many hands and the architects who fully brought the miracle to bring the Rochsburg vorderman. And a small salute to the little princess in the castle chapel. As primal Saxon family it was happy that one so what is beautiful, and no trust has destroyed everything. She survived that they wanted to destroy complete also the Russians.
