Altes Rathaus, Lindau

(4.6/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
The extremely well-preserved Altes Rathaus stands on one of Lindau's most attractive and historical streets. Built in the 15th century, the building hosted an Imperial Diet in 1496 and now is home to a library and one of the finest Gothic halls in the Lake Constance region. Walk around the town hall to view it from both the front and back, as both sides are equally impressive. • Amazing old building in the center of Lindau
  • POI point takes you to the beautiful old town, but Lindau offers many other exciting things. The town lies on Lake Constance, which borders four countries, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Principality of Liechtenstein. The Lake is 46 m long and 100 km wide 13 deep. 236 rivers and streams brings lake water. Lake Constance is Europe's third largest lake, which is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and cosy old baroque cities that lie like pearls on a string and it's all so shown surrounded by high mountains, a great beautiful sight, and a wonderful place to take a holiday. There is an incredible number that cycles around Lake Constance and use the many ferries that sail between cities all the time. Lindau is a small island with two bridges into the Mainland, where most leave the car when much of the city's pedestrian streets. We were a little disappointed by the seafront promenade, as we had expected, that there were small cozy restaurants, but it was only the large hotels, which had large areas of serving, it did not give the area a special intimate atmosphere. Product designed for the port of Lindau is the old lighthouse from 1200-years and the new lighthouse at the tip of one mole. On the other Pier stands a version of the Bavarian lion. From the lake promenade, you can go through the medieval streets Maximilianstrasse and wides to main market but enjoying the beautiful houses. Lindau has a medieval centre with very nice homes. The old town is classified as a unique historical monument in Europe.

  • By chance we came across during our stroll through Lindau here and read at the door on a stand, that there is a small, free exhibition inside. To warm up we went in and were immediately greeted by a friendly Lady, put us in the reading of the old German writing and admired old maps of the city has been.
