(4.7/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
St. Thomas Church (Thomaskirche) is most famous for being the resting place of composer Johann Sebastian Bach. It's also where he worked as a choir director. Reformer Martin Luther preached here on Pentecost Sunday in 1539. Today, it is a Lutheran church. In the sanctuary, study the portraits of superintendents of Leipzig. The oldest dates back to 1614. Note the stained-glass windows. One is a portrait of Bach, and another is Felix Mendelssohn. Outside the church, look for the statue of Bach. • The liturgy as a member of the EKHN is a little getting used to but is all good. Was worth it.

  • As the church where J. S. Bach was musical director from 1723 - 1750 and the place where his mortal remains are interred, this is a must see for classical music lovers.
  • Through his musicology meaning is very restless by the many visitors (we were also to do this) and yet you should have seen it.
